Just wondering if Lacey's nose color will fill in or will it stay this way? She is 8 mos so Im hoping it will eventually turn all black ...

It probably will not fill, usually their pigmentation is "complete" by 10-12 weeks of age, after that you're kinda SOL. You could try giving her some kelp to darken it up, but what she has is called a butterfly nose and it's not totally uncommon. FWIW, I have always loved her wee little nose!

Aw she is so adorable. I don't think it will fill in either though. My Pip has a butterfly nose too. I think it's pretty cute.

Brody's nose was completely black from a tiny puppy until he was about 1.5 years. Then it started lightening up. Now he has the butterfly nose. Booooooooooooo. I like the all black noses too. Baby Brody with a black nose - A teenage Brody with a black nose - A big boy Brody with a butterfly nose just starting - All grown up -

I sometimes wonder if the lack of pigmentation has to do w/ a raw diet...? IDK why but I seem to see more raw fed dogs w/ the lighter noses. Leah has ink black pigment but the very center of her nose is slightly pink, something no one but me would notice, but I keep hoping it doesn't get lighter!! Bryco also does not have as black of pigment as when he had prior to being put on raw...?

That's interesting how Brody's nose has changed and become lighter. I never noticed he had a butterfly nose until just now. My Pom had a black nose and then lost pigment on hers, but she was quite old by the time it happened.

That's an interesting theory Kristi. He has been raw fed since he was 4 months old. I have heard that kelp will help with pigment. Maybe I need to run down to puget sound and get him some seaweed. HA.
I have also heard that a butterfly nose (or snow nose) can develop because of lack of sunlight. Hence, it happens more in the winter and will sometimes darken up in the summer. Happens a LOT in the nordic breeds (huskies, malamutes, samoyeds, etc.)
I tend to think it's just genetic.
