I think you've done as much as possible with Maleah's owners. You've alerted them and hopefully they will listen and she won't get caught out!
Sorry you're going through this xx

So sorry to hear this. I think your vet is awesome though. I'm glad that she's not in any pain. I would probably go ahead and start supplementing with salmon oil and glucosamine anyway. It won't prevent surgery, but it might help the other knee to not progress.

Unfortunately it's rife because of people like your girls breeder. Don't get me wrong it's out there with 'reputable' breeders too but if people don't spay and neuter to stop those lines it'll just carry on
Hate the whole well let her have a litter thing irks me!
I agree with Tracy supplement her to help

Don't get me wrong it's out there with 'reputable' breeders too but if people don't spay and neuter to stop those lines it'll just carry on. The chi breed would go extinct, along w/ many of the toy breeds, if any time there was a connection to LP people spayed/neutered. Its very unfortunate, but true This includes everywhere... there is no such thing as an lp free line. LP will ALWAYS be a part of toy breeds because of bone size, density and tendency toward over-activity. Its sad, but true.

I know, it does ... I mean, even if you had a dog w/ all 0,0's in its pedigree it could be a ticking time bomb to produce it as you never know what siblings / aunts / uncles were removed along the way and it could be a devastating #s.

She already gets salmon oil, glucosamine, and msm.
I found out today though, that although the vet didn't diagnose her on paper, she did mention LP, which Kristi thinks may effect the insurance covering it. The exact words in the report were "Walks with back legs a little stiff, concerned about LP." FML!! What can I do? It's not a diagnosis, she's just saying because she's stiff back there, which both my girls are, she is concerned about her getting it. I doubt the vet could go back and rewrite the whole report if I talked to her about it, right? This sucks, I thought we had an understanding, but I think she just thought if she didn't diagnose her, she would be covered.

I called petplan anonymously and they said that in that case it would be pre-existing, if they showed any signs or symptoms of something before insurance or within the first 2 weeks. So I am going to talk to the vet and see if there is any way that her note on LP being a concern and her walking stiff can be taken out. If not, we are kinda screwed. Hopefully she can do something about it...
