Yes, absolutely you'll want to use a specialist. Never have orthopedic surgery done by anyone other than a board certified orthopedic surgeon. I'm sure you already know that, but I feel the need to reiterate it as it's so important. Especially important too as Izzie looks bowlegged, therefore it makes me wonder if she may need a tibial crest transposition on top of a groove deepening.

That's a lot extra right? I wonder how much I should expect to save up and spend when the time comes...?

Hmm.. well, it does add something, I suppose it will depend on the surgeon. To give you an idea in my particular case, I paid $3,400 for both of Roo's back legs to be done including groove deepening and tibial crest transposition. I've heard of estimates that are both less and more for both legs, it's really hard to say, it'll depend entirely on the surgeon.

Dang! She's worth it for sure, and I will do it, but wow. That's a car, which we need. It'd be sooo much easier if it was covered by insurance..

Can anyone tell in these videos? It's harder cuz it's far away... But they are more recent, and it's on a firmer ground.

Codi, she may be able to live with it fine, you have to remember that too. She obviously will get arthritis as she ages, but, do not spend anything on an animal, ever, that will add undue financial stress to your family. I know they mean the world to you, but you have to figure out what you can afford and not stress beyond that.

If she can live with it for a lil while, we can wait a lil while to get it done, til we are a little better off. Maybe when she is 4/5. BUT, if it is causing her pain, I really want it to be one of my first priorities. I will raise any money possible, and save whatever I can, to do it.

Codi, she may be able to live with it fine, you have to remember that too. I completely agree. Personally I do think LP surgery is overdone. I think a lot of it is really is judging your own dogs personal situation and quality of life. Some dogs can have grade 3 LP and live perfectly fine without surgery and some dogs have grade 2 and won't use the leg at all, it just depends. It's not a surgery I would rush into. I had the surgery done on Roo because it had become progressively worse to the point where she no longer used her right leg outside. She could run around like a pro on 3 legs, (which isn't good, of course) but then her left leg started to bother her so.. Izzie is also very young so you'll definitely want to wait anyway. I'd reevaluate a bit down the road and see how she is using her legs, if she seems to be in pain etc.
