Since she is just coming out of heat now, you should wait at least 6-8 weeks before having her spayed and you probably can wait 3-4 months...I'm wondering if you wait that long, you could set aside extra $ to take care of her teeth in the same op/anesthesia swoop haha. They can pull any bad teeth, clean up the ones that are there, and spay her all in a matter of 10-15 minutes...which I would say is worth it rather than having to have her put under twice. Is it safe to get a dental the same time they have surgery? I was told it wasn't due to the bacteria from their teeth and under the gums entering the bloodstream. I was told it was a bad mix and it seems possible, I guess? Have you ever heard of that? I haven't heard that -- but it definitely could be true. I know that when Laurel has been put under to have teeth pulled we have had dentals done on her and they obviously were pulling teeth so there was open wounds in her mouth, but not another wound on her body. Hmmm...will have to ask my vet the next time I am in.

I had Gambit's teeth pulled when he was neutered and wasn't told otherwise

From what I understand pulling teeth is fine when they're under for another surgery, assuming the dogs teeth are in good condition. It's dogs that have bad teeth requiring a dental, (like Zoey) where there is a lot tartar and bacteria under the gum line that is a concern. It's like two traumas at once basically. Major surgery plus bacteria entering the bloodstream. That's just what I was told, but I don't know how accurate it is. I'll be curious what your vet says Kristi.

Ooh right, I understand. Well I mean, I've never heard of a dog having a dental and a spay/neuter etc but definitely heard of teeth being pulled while they're under!
