I need to buy Louie some more meat tomorrow. Along with his chicken thighs and wings i'm going to buy some pork mince. Debating if I need to get ribs to? Not sure how to go about feeding them, whether i portion them up or what?
He is getting a thigh AM and 1/2 a wing PM with some chunks of thigh meat. While i'm adding pork do I give him a bite of it at each mealtime? And when increasing, do I need to get one meal to being meat and the other bone to get more meat into his diet?
This part is confusing lol
A pack of wings and thighs usually last him 2 weeks.
How do you all do it? Do you portion it all up into individual bags to defrost to?

Ok how does he do with boneless meals?? I would personally like a boneless meal or two with no difference in stools Before you add new proteins I feed pork ribs for bone content sometimes I cut them into portions bag and freeze I would add just pork mince with chicken bone until you have a just pork meal when he can handle that give him a rib

He hasn't had any boneless meals yet as i'm not sure how to do them as I only get wings and thighs?? His stools are good though Occasionally a little soft but most of the time they are great and as they should be. My dad has now stopped pestering me to pick up the poos from the garden as I demonstrated how they crumble (with a spade lol) so now he just runs the mower over them or puts them in his flower beds ha ha Will get the ribs and mince then and start with the mince and bone in chicken. What should I be aiming towards with this? I'm fine with feeding chicken but its getting a bit more confusing now with the addition of the new protein.

You're aiming towards boneless meals of each protein as the majority of their diet is just meat

Just cut the meat off a thigh and give as a meal, without the bone. Voila - boneless. Maybe do several of the boneless meals in between bone heavy meals to get his system used to more meat and less bone. Of course if his stools get sloppy, just do a bone heavy meal next time he eats (wing, etc.) Once he's doing well on boneless then start adding in the pork.

Thanks Sarah. How often do your girls get bone meals?
Thanks for that Tracy, I think I know where i'm at now!
I bought his wings, thighs, pork mince and pork ribs yesterday so will have fun portioning it all up tonight.
Is it okay to give him a rib as a meal? (not yet of course, but when he is okay with pork) and do they eat the whole thing or...??
I have salmon/fish oil but I keep forgetting to use it. How much and how often should I give him it?
I will start getting him towards boneless meals now and then adding the pork/ribs.
Where does everyone buy their meat from? I've been buying all mine from Tesco, the cheapest stuff they do and its getting more expensive everytime I go. Is there anywhere that sells it in bulk? x

Probably about 4 a week we are slightly bone heavy because of daisys bum! Yes ribs are fine I give really meaty ones and portion them up into 1-1.5oz I shop all over! Find a butcher become their buddy! Also ask for scraps apparently Morrison will sell you all the crap bones and all for like 50p! Halal shops are fab chicken gizzards are very cheap so is their liver for when you are on organs they also dotripe which is fab!!! Ask friends and family for freezer burnt or out of date meat dogs really don't mind! Um and a squirt a day should suffice but build him Up to it

Just a little warning... some dogs do just fine with pork ribs, Kiki did, but I think because Gambit has an overbite, he swallowed the end knobbly fatty bit of the pork ribs and ended up choking and vomiting it back up (thank goodness). Anyway, from then on I just decided to cut off the ends for both of them. I don't mean to scare you, as I said, I never had a problem with Kiki, but just something to be aware of, but I'm sure you watch Louie anyway lol. Tesco are really only good for the cheap wings/things, everything else seems to be a bit expensive for me. My butchers was only a tiny bit cheaper but then they weren't as friendly as Sarah's place. Just go and make friends, let them know you're buying for your dogs and then might give you the slightly less desirable cuts for a cheaper price!
