Oh my gosh, yeah I'd be no good on a farm either. I know where everything comes from and don't have a problem with that but I couldn't raise it and live with it and then kill it Kristi goats, chickens, ducks seriously can I live with you. I'll just stay away from the animals that are for consumption LMAO We're starting back on raw, this is our second week and once I have gotten them used to all the proteins and organs again, I WILL be buying some grinds, just because it will be slightly less expensive, which was the reason I stopped before. However, I won't be feeding solely, just because I would prefer to know which organs they're getting and giving them myself and also the dentail and jaw work out benefits they get from chewing meaty meat. If I lived near a farm or if hunting was allowed over here and I could get cheap meat or free meat then by all means, they wouldn't ever have ground meat, but times are hard lol and I'd rather my dogs get the most species appropriate diet, even if its not 100% as it would be in the wild, than be fed something that is just not made for them. I think each to their own and what they're comfortable with though

Yeah, I'd wean a litter to raw. They WILL grow slower and I think that's better. You also don't get the puppy uglies where the rear is higher than the front, etc. or they look all out of proportion. They will reach their genetically predetermined height/weight, it will just be slower and steadier than any kibble fed littermates. Could of done with panda being weaned onto raw, she went awfully bum high at 4 1/2 months old, she's still a tad unbalanced lucky she looks ok on the table and we don't have a show for a month yet!

Maybe that's why I never noticed mine go like that???

Good for you Kristi! I went back & forth a lot really when trying to decide what to wean Mari's pups on. I ended up doing a little bit of everything. LOL Very first meals were Honest Kitchen & wet ZP though but over the weeks they had Stella & Chewy's, chicken & eventually dehydrated ZP as I knew that's what they'd be fed in their new homes. The pups went home with dehydrated & canned ZP and a bag of Instinct (only because we got sample bags for free--otherwise I'd have bought them small bags of S&C's--wish I had because I heard the beef Instict gave Pockets bad gas! haha). Anyway.... We do a LOT of grinds now. For convinience & because of the fact I have to hand feed two boys who have literally nearly died swallowing pieces too big to be swallowed. And I've been bitten hand feeding (which was 100% not intentional biting but still sucked LOL) so we only do a couple boney meals a week when I'm off & have the time. I've never had any issues with grinds & I add a supplement & occasional organ meals to make sure they're getting a bit of everythign they need. I have pretty much decided with Maxies staining that I'm weeding out the ZP for now & doing a mix of hare-today grinds, boney items & S&C's. I won't be buying anymore HK after what we have is gone either. I like it...but don't like all the fruits/veggies. I'm jealous btw. I want to live on a farm with lots of animals! Thats the way I grew up...LOVE IT!!

I think ZP is great but I'd rather send them home with a frozen block of grinds and a bag of ZP I think--I'll also be keeping all my puppies til at least 4 months (sorry world), so, no sense in weaning themonto something I won't be feeding everyone (argh headache). I think you did great w/ Mari's pups tho and its good to see someone successfully wean onto raw-like diets!
