Yeah, I tried to have Ivy insured, and about 3 months after I insured her she was diagnosed, prior, this would have been covered by petplan, but they added in a clause saying that patellas and cruciates are exempt for 6 months. Petplan is the only insurance provider in the US that covers ANY SORT of LP, all the others exclude it. And they are moving away from covering it, as indicated by the new 6 month rule. Basically there's no way Codi could have got Izzie insured for it b'c the spay vet voluntarily checked her knees and found the problem...even if Izzie had been insured the day she came home it wouldn't have been 6 months from diagnosis Sucks.

Oh dear this is indicative of the level of patella luxation in Chihuahuas within the USA I guess I wonder if PetPlan have changed their take on this in the UK too? Anyone know? I recently got my two's new insurance docs, so will have look through later! I can understand why the insurance companies do this in a way, bad breeding and the consequent issues/surgery is bumping EVERYONES premiums up now As always it will be the poor dogs that suffer when they belong to owners who can't or won't pay for their surgery. If nobody in the UK knows anything about this, I'll give PP a ring next week and clarify things ... I'm curious to know myself! Patella probs are very common here too, so if things haven't yet changed, my guess is they will!

Its the docs for all Petplan, pretty sure...and its not just chihuahuas it applies to, but any breed, and most specifically toy breeds.

Jack Russel isn't a breed? There's a Parson Russel terrier but no jack Russel I think that's where the problems start with that type of dog.
