The JRT is a breed- it's recognised and has a standard in a lot of other countries and they have a set standard and type, just not in our country. Some JRT's in out country would adhere to the standards of the FCI, AKC and other bodies but alot here would not. I don't see why it can not be a recognised breed in this country, after all most breeds (especially all our english working breeds) were just created for a purpose out of a mish mash of other dogs too. Although they are not a breed, I don't view them the same as the "labradoodles" and "Chorkies" and other crosses that I think should not ever be bred, JRTs actually have a purpose. It was developed with the PRT but then seperated and bred smaller because the PRT was for game on land and they needed the JRT to be miniaturised so it could go to ground, down badger/ rabbit holes etc.

I just had a look they are nice, all rough coats though I like that type- 80% ore more white, white blaze, nice short legs. Like My bfs they are that type I probs wouldn't get another though, sticking to registered dogs now where I can track their ancestors and be sure they dont have LP!

We have Parson Russel Terriers in the uk there pretty much the same. They don't register them because there is no consistency of type with in the JRT's they come out all sorts of different colours sizes and shapes. We have a few PRT at ring craft and there owners have this running joke about JRT and there poor type. I always ask them how there Jack Russels are doing and get moaned at hahaha

The Parson Russell Terrier was formally known as the Jack Russell Terrier. The breed was named after a clergyman named Rev. John Russell. They were used as a small game hunting dog particularly for red fox, digging the quarry out of its den in the mid-1800s. On English hunts, the dogs needed to be long-legged enough to keep up with the hounds. The breed used to have a strong emphasis on its working ability, so the standard was very broad, allowing a wide range of accepted body types. When show breeders wanted to make the look of the dogs more strict they decided to change the name to separate the show types from the working types. Effective April 1, 2003 the name Jack Russell Terrier was changed to the Parson Russell Terrier as requested by the Jack Russell Terrier Association of America, which was changed to the Parson Russell Terrier Association of America. Some of the Parson Russell's talents include: hunting, tracking, agility, and performing tricks.

I have a 'Jack Russel' his name is Louis. He is fully black and tan. His parents were both over 90% white and he has a soft coat. In his litter there was a few white wire haired ones and some more fully black and tan, they were all totally different. I will try and get some photos of him from my brother. JRT is just a term used to cover all different types of crossbreed terrier. A lot of people in parsons see the name JRT like we see people calling chihuahuas tea cup.

LOL Louise -when Napoleon was advertised the dam's owner said she was a "Teacup Jack Russell" - now thats just offesive to EVERYONE. I love my boys so much (esp Feo he is my little soulmate) but I wish I could go back in time and have got decent chihuahua boys not Chi X terriers crosses I knew before we got Nap but my bf wanted him so bad..... I wasn't satisfied til I ended up getting Eva like 10 weeks later. Now theres a propper chi, wish I'd known what to look for from the beginning.

I did the exact same as you! I went and got Louis because I couldn't afford a chihuahua and didn't want to save (I was 17) and didn't think he would get as big as he did lol. He is also a total NUTTER!!!! He really bullied my mums Shihtzu so when my brother moved out Louis went to live with him, he goes out for morning runs ect with my brother so I'm happy for him to be living with him. I will have to post some photos of him later he is totally fab
