This may sound odd to you but when I used to show I was told to use rain water by a longtime breeder who used it on her dogs including many of her homebred champions. I would filter it then put in a spray bottle. I used to brush the coat the wrong way and give an even spray till just damp. Then brush through thoroughly while the coat still the wrong way first then back into place. They often shake after which puts some 'air' into the coat and when almost dry can give the look of a much thicker coat. Just like when they have been out in the rain briefly. I used to add a dash of Shaws coat products in the rain water for a fresh smell and it did a great simple job of keeping their coats clean and conditioned between baths and for use at shows.
