We went for a walk yesterday - she got 5 - 10 mins walk and OMGGGGG she was a nightmare! She was pulling and going up on her 2 back legs arghhhh. I think the problem was that the collie was running around and Rez was sometimes ahead of her - she wanted to be up there with the others.
She limped a bit in the evening - I think I am goingto have to take her out for her own short walk without the others for a few weeks so she's not trying to keep up with the others.

Ack -- did they really do surgery for LP on Pixel before she was 1? The surgery should never be done before a minimum of 14-16 months because their bones are still growing and more often than not cause the op to fail or great discomfort...

well that's very upsetting. I hope it's not that way for her. After she smashed her leg she couldn't use it at all. Fingers crossed she doesn't really grow and it stays fixed.

I hope so too -- didn't realize it was injury altho its hard to say still what they should have done, but, HOPEFULLY most of her bone growth was done, it should be...but yeah. When Oakley smashed her knee she was 13 months and the ortho had us wait a month before she'd do surgery, I know for genetic LP you absolutely should never do it before 14-16 months but hopefully the way they repaired pixel's leg they accounted for possible growth?

If a dog has a severe patella luxation, is in pain or walking on three legs, they need surgery. Jago was about 9 months when his knee went, he was hopping around on three legs within weeks of us realising ther was a problem with the knee To put off surgery would be tantamount to cruelty ... in my opinion. Jago's operation at this age was 100% sucesssful and he has had no discomfort whatsoever, so people whose dogs need early surgery need not worry unduly ... they would just need to look at J to know how well it can work and I know he is not alone I would hate to see people delaying surgery with no good reason or to beat themselves up if there Chihuahua needed surgery before 1 year/14 months, whatever

It was injury yes but he did say she must have been pre-disposed to have weak knees for it to happen - but he didn't see her accident I did and it was nasty.
I hope he did too - although it didn't even occur to me to ask. It's so frustrating to only learn things afterwards - I wish I'd known to be able to ask and feel like maybe my vet should have said something to me about that. Grrrrrr

No reason why she shouldn't be fine, I know of several small dogs, mostly Chihuahuas that have had needed patella repairs befor the age of one and they are all fine ... my Jago is a fine example, at 9 years plus his leg is sound and he has no arthritis, or problem realted to bone growth He'll still walk for miles given the chance So please don't worry unduly.
