Just got back from taking daisy & jake to have their anal glands emptied and vet said its time for jake to have a dental as my attempts to clean the plaque off myself have failed they aren't too bad but he has a thin layer that will just not come off and will only get worse. Heidi needs a dental too. I'm gutted, and after jake getting ill last time I am really nervous as daisy is also being spayed next month so all 3 are going under I'm going to be a nervous wreck

What have u tried doing??? U could scrape it yourself with a dental pick? Lotus had a bit of plaque after having the pups she's never had it before but I've got it off in a week??

Tried Plaque off & tropiclean, brushing regularly which isn't easy it takes 2 people to do it, tried picking it off with fingers then tried using a metal scraper thing which didn't really work either although I was quite gentle as was worried about taking the enamel off? then they've been having raw bones too

Have u been using the tropiclean daily and brushing daily it's a pain but you can do it. Try the petzlife, I wouldn't want jake put under either and give raw bones recreationally in the evening?? Kristi is prob the best person to help coz she cleared that boy she was handling right up really well but I think u could prob save from getting a dental. How bad is it??? They are so expensive too

I've done it sort of every other day, I know that's not good enough, but they are really unco operative makes it worse. I won't book the dental yet so I'll give it 2 or 3 weeks doing it daily see if it helps. I swear I got them looking a bit better at one stage then they suddenly got crap again I don't know what causes it I only feed him ziwipeak dry & the occasional chew. It's mainly on his upper canines, and the first incisor next to it so chewing may not be doing it should I give him bones with more meat on so that it's working on his front teeth more? Jakes Heidis Daisys

Oh gutted From what you've said, I know it will be hard but I'd try and do it every day. As Sarah said, why don't you try Petzlife? I've heard that works better than Tropiclean. I know its more expensive but its A LOT cheaper than a dental and also no worry with anesthetic if it works. Kiki's teeth are terrible I've just got her last puppy tooth yanked out (she's 3 in May but one was just too wobbly to pull while she was awake) so now I'm gonna go hard on this teeth cleaning thing!

What are their back teeth like?? Try get some spines they use front teeth on them and use petzlife twice a day and brush twice a day.... They will just have to deal with it unfortunately I think it can be done without a dental.

Does the petzlife really work though? I'm a bit wary with buying any more products. Really wish I'd got them used to teeth cleaning from day 1 Their back teeth are ok thankfully, it's mainly just the canines. Have got some lamb spines that I can give them tonite
