That's what I used, a metal file haha. I made Heidi's gum bleed by accident though so I was worried about doing it again. Brushing went ok last night but jake was sick this morning and Heidi's got blood in her poo so I haven't done anything today got to get Heidi to the vets

Have you tried Plaque-Off? I thought you used that at one point? Its got good reviews. Luckily Louie's teeth aren't too bad but like Jake he gets the build up on his upper canines and the one next to it. I have tropiclean oral gel but he hates it, don't think he likes the minty taste so might have to invest in a nicer tasting paste and persevere coz he HATES me fiddling with his mouth/teeth. Mind you, he hates having his nails cut to but i just pin him to the floor and do it anyway lol He is a very good recreational chewer though which is good as hes still on kibble at the minute. Not the best (James Wellbeloved) but he does well on it for the minute untill I can get him on something more suitable. He does get raw bones every so often though. He had the turkey neck at easter that cleaned his teeth up a treat

I feel your pain, nataliee, I was in the same situation. I think if you give it some time you can likely get it all off yourself. When I first got Pip and Roo I got them both dentals and then stupidly ignored their teeth and they got bad again pretty quickly, within a year. I was able to get both of their teeth clean again by brushing daily, using peroxide, and using Petz Life gel every night plus chews. Pip's are pretty much perfect, but Roo it took me awhile to get her gums healthy to the point where she didn't freak out having them brushed. Many times dogs freak because their gums are unhealthy and hurt to be brushed. Or they're simply not used to it. It takes about a week or two of gently moving the brush over them to work them up to it. Now I'm able to brush their teeth easily every night. Roo still has a bit of plaque to be removed from her canines, but otherwise her teeth look great. I'm certain I can get it all off eventually. So I'd say there is hope for your little ones too as Roo's teeth were pretty grungy when I started. Another thing that really helped was giving them pizzle sticks and gullet spirals from best bully sticks. I think the combination of the gel to loosen things up, the chews, and then the brushing is the best way to do it. It can take awhile, but little by little you'll get there. Good luck!

We have tried plaque off but anything that needs to be sprinkled on the food doesn't work because a certain fluffy chihuahua knows when I've done it and will shake it off each piece of kibble before he eats it. Mine hate the taste of tropiclean too, I feel a bit mean lol haven't had chance to get some logic yet though.
Thanks paula, I think I will order some of this petzlife now that I keep hearing good things.
We have been making progress though since I started this thread I've brushed them at least once every day and they are learning to get over it now so that's making it a lot easier i'll give a few more days of tropiclean & brushing then I'll start trying to scrape it off

Well I started trying to scrape it off but it's not working so far I swear they have got worse in the last few days but I havent been giving them raw bones as much as usual they have been having tripe sticks & f4d treats but it almost looks like its sticking in between their teeth. Heidi's gums are not looking great thinking she probs has gum disease already. Now that they are learning to deal with having their teeth done I'm brushing a bit harsher in hope that it will help move the fecking plaque!

Went to the vets for boosters yesterday, she said Jakes teeth is mainly just staining so he does not need a dental at all his teeth are fine, she said Heidi's got nice teeth (I guess compared to what she's seen in other chis) and her gums are fine (I thought they look a weird colour & she does have bad breath?) so she also does not require a dental however she has broke an upper carnassial so I need to monitor it for exposed pulp or abscesses as may need removing. The vet was pleased I brush their teeth daily
