I've never heard of GME will have a little read up. I do think that all these problems are prevalent in any breed. Just that with the sudden announcement about SM people are assuming its a chi thing.
The reason I asked about the molera is because CM can be connected to SM and the CSF has no where to go because the base of the skull is too small for the brain do sends the fluid down the spine causes syrinxes (SM) all the chis scanned so far bar 1 had CM the one without has a molera.. The others don't as far as we are aware as apparently only 30% have moleras as adults. Logic tells me with a molera the excessive fluid would be directed to the molera.
It sounds like your baby has an awful lot of problems bless her heart. All you can do is do your best for her. Hydro can cause a lot of behavioural problems and with everything else I would bear all that in mind. I hope you find a way to improve her

Thank you Sarah, its nice to have someone reply to me. You can feel very alone in these cases. Yes my little mia has a host of problems that she just doesnt desreve. My last chi was also plagued with ill health, heart problem diagnosed at 3 years old and seizures. She passed away at 9 years old. I love the breed so much but im scared to even think of getting another one if anything should happen to this little dot. To say im heartbroken is a huge understatement. I just love her so much.

Oh no, I am reading the symptoms and it says "hypersensitivity in the neck area resulting in an uncontrolled urge to scratch at the neck and shoulders" and "there often is discomfort and pain in the area of the neck, ears and shoulders"!!!
Roxy is kind of hypersensitive in the neck, she is fanatic scratch freak - she wants us to scratch her there 24/7, she uses her paws and head to get our hand there and scratch!! Once you start, she can sit still for hours. She scratches herself before sleeping there too, always! And sometimes I notice that when I try to kiss her on the neck she becomes kind of stiff and anxious, once she growled (which is very very unusual from her, she never growls to humans) I corrected her and she has never done that again, but she is always kind of stiff when I try to kiss her there, it doesn't seem like she is in pain, but discomfort for sure.
I am scared now, should I get her checked? She is nearly 3 years old now, it could be a mild case, but still! She has English lines from her fathers side, some quite popular over there. Does anybody have the list with the lines in question?

I wouldn't jump to conclusions. I honestly still don't believe there's enough knowledge on this illness.
The pain is vocalised too I think there's some harrowing videos online. If you think there's a problem I would urge you to insure her and then go from there

Did the person with roxy get her scanned? What happened. I read all the disagreements on here about scanning or not. Or not being able to afford it. Well as an owner of a now 2 year old chihuahua with CM/SM the Syringomyelia being severe it makes me mad that some people still want to breed without testing. If you people could see what my little dog has been through, the terrible pain she has endured you would test and test again. If you have not got the finances to scan, then you have no right to be breeding. You only have to live with an affected chihuahua to see why I feel so strongly about this. Roxy's owner, please get your little dog scanned as from what you have said it sounds like she does have SM. It is such a painful disease and the fact she tenses when you try to kiss her confirms this. She needs to be on pain meds. Please get this sorted for her. God only knows how much pain she is having to put up with. I am on here again as the breeder I bought my baby from is selling another litter. Her name is Lorraine Richards from Biggin Hill. She advertises on Pats Petals. I gave her the benefit of not knowing about this disease with my chi's litter, but she damn well knows about it now and has continued breeding. I am furious that anyone could be so evil. Also the spineless woman who runs the Pats Petals site? I informed her way back about Lorraine Richards and that the litter had Syringomyelia and she didn't bother to reply just forwarded my email to Lorraine. So she is allowing potential Syringomyelia puppies to be sold yet again on her site. She has added on her site she is not responsible for puppies sold from her friends. I am raging with fury. Please alert everyone to never buy any puppies on Pats Petals site unless parents have been scanned. She fluffs her site with all the health issues and looking after puppies and nowhere does she mention Syringomyelia. It is a disgrace that so called chihuahua lovers and breeders carry on like this. Please all of you seem like caring chi lovers. Do everything you can to make sure you never breed puppies with this awful disease by not having the funds to scan. No dog should ever have to suffer like my little Mia has.

Just to say as well that there is not always vocalisation with pain as Sarah stated on here. My little Mia suffered incredible pain at the beginning of her symptoms. She never made a sound. You say there is not much information out there. There is heaps of info out there if you look. I have the knowledge and the experience now to be confident that I know all there is about this awful disease. But research is ongoing and new things are always cropping up. So I make it my business to keep informed of as much as I can. Obviously Mia is under Clare Rusbridge who is one of the world leaders in SM/CM. I am in weekly contact with her so am kept aware of any new findings. I am happy to advise or give support to anyone who is going through this or fears their dog may have SM/CM. I'm in the process of trying to get a website together to promote this disease to all chihuahua owners and breeders. When its up and running I will give you the web address and hope that you promote it to all and everyone in the chihuahua world. We need to stop this disease before it gets to the stage that it has in the ckcs.
