I agree with all what you guys are saying ! I just kinda putting it out there x ..... Just think of those poor people that have purchased a pup weather pet/show and now are dealing with what is a very sick dog ;( heartbreaking .......
perhaps those people can make a claim on the breeders for knowly there was a problem and it could be passed on .......
I am going to have to get my guys tested anyway irrespective of breeding or not as it can be horrid to deal with a dog that has this ........ ! x

I think it is probably going to affect alot of the lines here (i hope not) the gene pool is so small ...I'm planning on getting Ruby and B scanned even tho i have no further plans to breed from ruby and B hasn't been bred from, id like to get an idea if whether it might be in the pups lines and B is of similar breeding, obviously I'd still have them scanned if I decide to breed any of them.... I don't know how effective it will be as on the CKCS club site they have a BVA/KC document that says the best time to scan is 5 years although they recommend scanning before breeding still trying to learn more about it all really eta: www.thecavalierclub.co.uk/health/syringo/downloads/bvakc_cmsm_info_12.pdf

I suppose the problem is proving they knew there was a problem. It's so worrying really I need to speak to Graham About it but I think he is probably inundated with questions ATM. It's horrible because of the one frames. Chloe I suppose you and I are probably the two of the few people who've had a litter and plan to keep the entire litter. I think if for whatever reason I would give full disclosure on the situation since my dogs haven't been scanned and I obviously know now it's in the lines... Even though I was told it wasn't

I have to say I am gutted to come on here tonight and find this topic on SM, I have had three ckcs over the last twelve years I still have two, both have mvd and one also has epilepsy and possible SM. no scan has been done on her as she is a pet and spayed. I know SM has caused a lot of heart ache in the ckcs world both breeder and pet homes. I just hope you can get the message out to all breeders to scan and only mate from clear dogs.

It's so heartbreaking. I'm going to feel sick waiting for the results when I scan mine.

the ckcs breeders were at this stage 10 years ago but most did not except there was a problem and carried on breeding without scanning, now they say there is 80% of ckcs with SM, so please breeders take note of what is happening in your breed.

I think that's the problem is that whilst everyone is aware not everyone will but it's not only the breeding of affected dogs it's a recessive gene so we need a DNA test for it to eliminate breeding 2 carriers together. Wish I had millions to throw into the research
