so i took the boys for their jabs which didnt happen.. Had a really long chat with the vet to the point he even got the vet meds book out to show me and he basically said that its better to have 1 vaccination at 12 weeks as it is more effective at that age than to have two (which is what the book says so i dont understand why vets are saying they need two i am baffled!!). We arent giving Lepto as there are so many possible side effects he prefers not to give it for this reason especially because chis are so small. I always thought you needed 2 to be fully vaccinated but obviously not. Apparently mums antibodies protect to about 12 weeks regardless of whether they are still feeding them or not (Lotus is queen of mummy milk still.. hence why my pups are fat little so and sos) so they are going back in 3 weeks time for 1 dose of the parvo, distemper etc vaccs and no lepto. Boys had a thorough check over and hes super pleased with them.. poked about in their mouths, checked hearts, eyes etc, the boys couldnt of cared less just stood there then rolled over for belly rubs ahahaha I am so so happy to find a vet who doesnt want to rinse my purse and flood my babies systems!!

Well I was shocked Tracey because obviously its always 2 jabs here and 3 in America but I actually saw the medicine book and it said 1 full vial from 10 weeks of age but is more effective from 12 weeks. He said they push it earlier because of socialisation but I said well I carry mine everywhere anyway when they come out and he said well they don't seem bothered by much (both were in the crate on their backs having a snooze then stuck their heads out for a look around hahahaha

Yep ! It is so true what the vet said. Although, I do tend to think they need a second dose at about 16 weeks because many pups are still protected by mum at even 12 weeks? BUT your vet sounds like he will provide you good direction lol so don't listen to me...I am vac my puppies at 10 & 14 weeks and pet owners can decide if they want a 3rd at 18 weeks. The doses don't boost anything though, they either provide immunity or they don't. Starting at 6 weeks like some breeders do here in the US is absolute crockery.

We've had this debate before and I think if you choose NOT to vaccinate and your dog ends up with a disease that a vaccine would've covered, obviously it isn't covered by the insurance. However, the pups are still getting the vaccine so therefore are protected. The vet will sign off on the vaccines so I do believe it will be covered. But you know sneaky insurance companies who try and get around everything

Well I read the actual veterinary guidelines on the vaccination in their book and it says 1 dose from 10 weeks of age but is more effective from 12 weeks of age. My others have been done at 9 and 11 weeks. Seems bloody pointless. Bit pissed off tbh as I was always under the impression a full course was 2 vaccinations 2 weeks apart. The manufacturers say 1 full Vial so idk whether 1/2 a vial would be effective altho I am having that.
Rebecca their vet files will say they are fully vaccinated because they aren't and I think my vet would kick off at the insurance company. Altho he said its very very rare to get the actual diseases they protect against he said he sees far more serious problems from vaccinosis. I trust him.
I'm not renewing their insurance anyway (the girls) the money will go into a savings account for them every month and god forbid if anything happens to them I have a credit card which can take a battering

Sarah your vet sounds like a truly decent man.
I think the savings thing is perfect. I have NEVER used my collies insurance and we have paid it for 10 years. Pixels yes I have for her LP op but in the long run I bet I would have saved that much.
