On another forum a lady is talking about how she is a KC accredited breeder. What do you have to do to become accredited?
She has posted a pic of her bitch in whelp and she is not to the standard AT ALL. She looks a mix to me and is most DEFINITELY pet quality and should NOT have been bred.
I'm just curious what a KC accredited breeder really means. It certainly can't mean quality from what I have seen of her breeding stock.

Its not called that any more its assured breeders scheme. Its pretty much a load of shit for the KC to get more money. You pay your fee every month or year and they give you this title. There are a kind of code of ethics but they are not policed at all by the kc

Ah ha Louise. That's what I was thinking. Her bitch is very much pet quality and she is bragging about being KC ACCREDITED. Sounds to me like just another way to make people think you are reputable and to sell puppies.

Yes what Louise said for some breeds there are health tests they have to do. The rules aren't much for chis just they have to be microchipped and over a year old not more than 4 litters blah blah blah. Nothing about the quality of the dogs, anyone can join, my understanding is they are starting to do home visits but some of there requests are a joke. For example I know a breeder who failed because she refused to put the kc names of her dogs up on her wall outside the house in case of a fire etc I mean she may as well have a sign saying come steal my dogs.
Puppy farmers can join. You pay £20 a year to be an assured breeder. Rumour has it they are going to have some incentives for the breeders.. Tracy feel free to say this lol it could be a good scheme if it was policed properly and had decent rules not that you must give your contract in a certain folder. I won't be joining unless it becomes mandatory by the breed clubs for members or unless they change their rules and criteria

I saw the bitch you are talking about--she looked mixed to me! and, the breeder was telling other people to watch out for puppies that may be mixed! lol!

What is bad is that unscrupulous people learn the lingo. They research and learn what people are looking for in a reputable breeder. Then they are able to spout off the terms and it makes it easier to fool people.

They don't think they are doing any wrong though? It's their dog they can breed it. Well I'm sure the details will be in the next breed supplement so I'll have a nose try work out who the dogs are

I really don't put much stock in the accredited breeder scheme,my bulldogs breeder is accredited ,breeds as many bulldogs as she can, when I had Annie put to sleep I let the breeder know and she did not even have the decency to reply !,I've known her almost 25 years, nursed a bully for her kept a female here until she came into season then mated and I now class her as a backyard breeder ,anyone can get in the scheme but it doesn't make them a good breeder, karen
