Syringomyelia Health Alert in Chihuahuas

Syringomyelia (SM) has been discovered in show lines in the US as of 2006. Eng. AM CH. Deerus Flashmoon at Ballybroke tested positive for SM.

SM is a serious health condition which has been found in toy breeds. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Brussels Griffons, Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, all have dogs affected with SM. It is possible for SM affected dogs to pass this serious condition to their offspring. The only accurate way to diagnose SM is with an MRI. If you have the above mentioned dog in your pedigree or if your dog exhibits symptoms of SM, please visit your veterinarian and see if he/she suggests an MRI to determine if your dog has SM.

Figure this might affect some of you girls over in UK tho I hope not, as he was bred and shown there first...its probably unlikely, but...you know what I always say, "Knowledge is Power".

IDK, I wanted to post it tho so u and Louise could see and anyone else there that has the pedigree for their dogs. It IS awful! Thank god he's not in any of mine either! A dog like that has probably been used up and down the wall in pedigrees here, its frightening!

I'm not sure, they JUST announced it here...they are offering discounted testing here if anyone has him in their pedigree.

Oh god I saw the title and my heart skipped a beat. SM is just awful

I sure hope there isn't many chihuahuas affected by this
