Lula has MORE THAN insurance. Its about £20 per month and it covers up to £7500 for each illness. It started 4 years ago when she was 14 weeks and was £10 per month. We have claimed lots tho as she has epilepsy and has had lots of scans, mri and medicine. So far...they've been really great at paying etc. The excess is £70 per illness ..per year.
I think thats not too bad although i only have one dog...it must be super expensive for more than one!

Oh and one thing that I didn't know about, ages ago we had a little scare with Kiki's tail, I thought it was broken etc (turned out it was just bruised) anyway, when I was speaking with the vet about an op and that I have insurance, he told me that a few of the insurers require you to pay for the op and then they pay it back to you. I know that a couple pay directly to the vet for you so I'll have to look in to them as theres no way I could fork out £5,000 for an op and wait to be paid back lol I just don't have that. Obviously touch wood I never have to claim anyway!

Thats good, Sarah. My vet was like, "yeah you'll have to pay me tomorrow and then you request the paper work, bring it back and we'll sign and send it off" lol.

Petplan reimburses -- which works for us b'c we usually have cash set aside, or, for utter emergencies, a credit card. But after the age of 3 or 4 I will probably stop insuring them. I think its better to have the $$ aside and know your limits then put endless cash into pet insurance.

Oh forgot to say -- pre-existing conditions are NOT covered. So like Roo's LP wouldn't be unless you'd insured her prior to diagnosis. Oakley's LP surgery was covered as she was not diagnosed prior to insuring.

I've decided against getting the insurance after looking into it further and seeing what's covered. Mainly because should something come up, I'm in the fortunate position where I'd have the money to cover it. If I couldn't afford a lump sum all at once, I'd go with insurance then or put money aside regularly for an emergency fund.

Its great that you're in that position so perhaps you wouldn't need to, but I was going to say you could just put the cost of the monthly insurance away aswell? Hopefully nothing will happen to your beautiful babies anyway.
