not sure which one to try first... but she is not really eating well on the Royal Canin. Any advice out there on these brands? We have a store here that supplies them. Thanks

I wouldn't feed EVO to a puppy -- you can get some funny growth stuff going on around the plates and end up with a puppy that toes in or out in the front and has knobby looking front legs. I've not had any experience with Orijen but when I fed Acana mine seemed to enjoy it. If you can get Fromm Four Star Nutritionals in Duck and Sweet Potato, that is one I really really liked, and so did the dogs!

There's a DVD called the Puppy Puzzle by Pat Hastings. She talks a lot about nutrition (and she knocks a raw diet for puppies too lol just FWIW) and how it can dramatically mess up the "look" of front legs. She showed quite a few examples of puppies fed on premium ALS foods and premium puppy foods vs puppies fed on a more "neutral" diet and it was incredible to see the differences in their front legs. Unfortunately the only "access" to the info really is her DVD (she might have a book too?). The general concept centers around the foods causing "too rapid" of a growth pattern and rather than legs growing straight and strong, they go "wonky". Interestingly in most of the puppies that got wonky legs, a week of a non-premium, not-overdone food, and their legs were back to normal. I've fed Leah raw from the ground up, and she's doing just fine...beautiful straight front legs,--but if I see any deviation, I feed her cooked meats for a few days til it "settles". EVO and Orijen are both REALLY high in protein too. Its a lot for her tiny liver and kidneys to process, just my humble opinion. Thats why I like Acana better as I feel it more closely models the nutrient levels they might get in a more wild setting.

i really didn't want to change her food, but she is just not excited about Royal Canin. The Acana and Orijen both have a lot of things like Marigold Flowers, Lavendar, Chamomille... I'm sneezing opening the bag

I'm sneezing opening the bag Oh no!! Allergies are awful--they make me miserable every summer and fall. Guess it makes sense that if it were an ingredient in a food it might act them up...ugh. Maybe she's just a light eater? Are you feeding her in set meals or free feeding?

3 meals a day. Well, she gobbled up a bit of the EVO but if it's not going to be good for her, i don't want to feed it. i put a tiny bit of baby food on her royal canin and she is eating it all. i just didn't want to keep tweaking the food to get her to eat it--i don't want to set her up to be picky!
