What a hike to the vet's! It was time for Harry's 1st MOT, and Phoebe and Thomas (the Bengals) were due theirs too, so we took them all at the same time. Phoebe was fairly quiet, but Thomas howled his head off all the way, which scared Harry, so he shivered most of the way; despite being cuddled on my lap (hubby was driving).
The good news: Harry's basically a healthy little chap and our new vet was all gooey over him. It was funny seeing such a big bloke coo at him, lol! Not quite so funny though when he cracked a joke about Harry being just the right size to put in my handbag - I was very quick to point out that Harry uses his own legs whenever possible, heh heh! Harry didn't even yelp at the needle (though he did try and jump away from it!).
The 2 items of not-so-good news:
1. He said Harry is definitely too skinny, and gave me the 3rd degree about Harry's siblings, and his diet, but then couldn't offer any advice when he heard what (and how much!) he actually eats.
2. He said Harry testicles are not quite in the right place! They are not completely inside, but I must admit that I've noticed they seem as if they 'come and go' sometimes, which I thought a bit odd. But I don't really know much about Chihuahua sized dog's bits, so just decided to check next time we were at the vet's.
So he will be given the 'chop' after all, as he defo mustn't be bred from (though I'd left it too late for showing, toward that end, anyway!).
So I need advice from you guys about what I can get Harry to eat that he will enjoy, but won't harm his health, or give him an upset tummy, but WILL help him to put a bit of meat on his bones. I can quite literally feel every single vertebra in his spine, and I think if he were an SC he'd actually look like skin and bone.
His normal diet is a mixture of raw, ZP, Origen, once a week type treats such as raw prawns etc. and I've even started to let him have some of the RC crunchies that we still have, as well as his other foods. There is ALWAYS dry food left down for him, but he never eats a whole portion of food at a time... he's like a diabetic who eats little and often! As far as the amount of food goes, I'm pretty sure he has more than the books say he should eat, for his weight, but he's just sooooo darned energetic and expends a LOT of energy most of the day long.
So what can I give him that will put weight on a teensy weensy Chi?
