Paula, I have the scaler like the one in the first link. The second one looks really pointy. You want the edges you can lay against the teeth and then pull down. Brody had a little bit of tartar on the front of one of his canines. I just peel his lips back and use the scaler and start at the gumline and then scrape downward on the tooth several times and it all scrapes off. Then follow up with the polisher or a good toothbrushing.

Just remember that its always best to work at build on crap 1st, for a good month or so, before scaling...cuz the scaling does cause those tiny scratches. I need to get one of those electric sonic toothbrushes to try polishing the teeth with after, b'c so far Oakley has 2 teeth that the buildup on the actual tooth (not at / near the gumline) is super quick after I scale. They are just grooved oddly and are perfect places for tarter to build, no matter how many chewies, RMB's, spays, gels, brushing I do hha.

This is such a wonderful thread. Thanks for providing such important information. I think I might have to get my girl some additive for the water, but I want to do a little more research into it. My girl already has a toothbrush. I used to put small packs of stuff into their water bowl, but it didn't seem like it was making a real difference.
