Wow that does seem VERY pushy to me. I mean, I think its good that they are being responsible about it but still, who's to say that you will go to them anyway? And once you said you are an exhibitor they should've shut up. But I suppose there could be lots of people who are just BYB who say the same thing?
Gambit who neutered at 7 months and Chaos at 13 weeks. I must say, the only real difference is that Chaos is still a bit puppyish. He's VERY loving, always wants a cuddle, never mean or pushy, same as Gambit really.
If I ever do have another male, I'd definitely do the same and neuter at 6/7 months. When I went to the Chihuahua meetup I noticed a big difference in the boys that were still intact (none were show dogs) but slightly younger than my lot and must admit, I didn't like it.

I think that's pushy too.
I am slowly coming over to your way of thinking on early spay/neuter too Kristi. IF and only IF people do it as an educated decision to allow growth plates to close and for hormones to mature. I'm sure Brody would have a different 'look' if he would have been allowed to mature. Early spay/neuters always maintain that juvenile puppy look as opposed to intact or late spay/neuters.
I've also seen a couple of dangerous pyo's and irresponsibility in the breeding dept (accidents) to make me completely endorse late spay/neuter. But I do see your point.

First, I got an e-mail from them...they send out "reminders", so, I am always getting reminded all my dogs need bordetella, all my dogs need lepto etc. when they know I ONLY do DAP and rabies as required by law, and DAP I stop after the 1 year shot. I know it's an automated system and yadda yadda but when I got the spay e-mail I thought "you've gotta be effin kidding me"...then they CALLED!!!!! And it was like, you would think the end of the convo would have been "she's a show dog" but...nope!
It IS pushy...this is vet #1 lol, the one where the lady vet is really nice. I just hate that they follow all these obsessive protocols and then make you feel bad when you want to do something else.
And the fact that they actually put her on their books...that REALLY is pushy! I have never taken Ivy there, just to the small local vet #2 that is cheap...but I'm sure they'd have done the same for her. I decided to make Birdie's vet vet #3 the horse doc lol. I think ultimately we will all end up at the horse doc but do some cheaper things at the crappy in-town vet.

I just have really been reading and researching and am surprised to see what I find when I get beyond the cover facts for early spay/neuter. Enough to make it my personal choice anyway, but maybe not enough to recommend it to the average pet owner yet. It DOES change the way that they look as adults and it does change their bone structure...to me that just logically seems like it could cause problems. Females spayed early have a high incidence of urinary incontinence after the age of 5 if they were spayed prior to having a season, too. I do agree that early spay/neuter is the way to go for the average/less than responsible pet owner, but if you have someone truly interested in the well being of their dog and can choose to be responsible, letting them mature until a year or so definitely has its benefits. I think its too tempting for some people to suddenly have an intact dog or bitch and think "puppies"! So it's tough to say... Leah has a recessed vulva anyway--she NEEDS to have a season or she will have a life plagued by UTI's and possible surgery. That's on her records at the vet...but they still called and pushed it.

They even had the nerve to tell me she is 8 months old and 2 months past due...last I checked being spayed wasn't a prescription or requirement!
