You know what though, when I took Chaos in to my vet about his hernia, he said that he needs to be neutered, which I said I will be doing. When he went in for his op a few days later, afterward he phoned me and told me "oh and I neutered him at the same time, so thats an extra £90". I was like... umm huh? At the time I was glad that he got it out of the way instead of Chaos having to go through two surgeries but he ended up with another hernia on the other side anyway and had another op a few months after the first!

Holy. I would probably be pretty ticked, although I see their point with the "joe schmoe" pet owner.. it would help increase the number of pets being done.
However, I agree that early s/n isn't something that should be done anymore unless they MUST (shelter animals, for example.. you never really KNOW who's adopting them so it's easier to s/n before they are adopted).

OMG Kristi! I guess it is a good thing really but the pushing thing after you inform them you are showing/breeding they should have respected that. It's one thing if they don't know. UGH. And crating solving marking. Sorry doesn't always work! LOL Marley was neutered fairly late (almost 1) & I have worked & worked with him & he STILL scent marks. The only one I didn't neuter early & the one who gives me the most problems with marking. Then again...it is Marley! haha

OMG REALLY? I would have been livid!! I always worried when I had to get Bryco's teeth pulled they would think he was there for a neuter instead. haha I mean glad Chaos didn't have to have 2 ops but I can't believe he just went and did it!

Wow what a cheeky vet! I can't believe they actually treid to justify it after you said that you did not want her spayed so she could show. Your vet needs to know who is in charge when it comes to YOUR dog.

I know! I was a bit taken aback to be honest, and not very happy! I mean, he called himself instead of letting the nurse do it so when I answered I thought "Oh my gosh, he's dead". I just don't understand why he didn't phone me BEFORE hand and say, we're in surgery now and I've located his testicles (he was worried they wouldn't descend due to the hernia) shall I neuter while I'm here? He never told me either that there was a chance Chaos would develop ANOTHER hernia on the other side either and therefore would probably need another op anyway! What if I didn't have the extra money lol I did ask what would be the knock on effects of being neutered so early and he said slower growth and thats it. We shall see if it has any detrimental effects on his bones etc!

If you didn't have the extra money, I think you shouldn't have had to pay, seeing as you didn't give consent for it to be done and it wasnt an emergency. How is Chaos now in regards to the hernias? Poor booy xx
