Does anyone have any experience with it? Does it work?? How do I know that what I buy is the right stuff? I read it protects from lung worm too I'd rather use this in the summer months if this is the case

We use it during summer to protect from fleas/ticks when we go places we KNOW they will be. I also give them some every so often in some warm water (they drink it up) to help fight internal parasites.
We use it outside the perimeter of our house spring/summer and inside the baseboards as well. We don't use it, usually, unless we SEE a problem (our backyard was FULL of ticks this summer ick!).
I haven't actually used it ON the dogs, because there's been no need yet. I just know you need to be sure you and all pets/kids don't inhale the dust as it's fine particles of crushed shells and it harms lungs the same way it harms the buggies (sharp edges cut the bug open and it dehydrates and dies).

Do you have to mix it with water? Apparently humans can take it :s I read that once a day will prevent worms fleas ticks etc? And does lung worm we have so many snails and slugs here it panics mr which is the only reason I advocate in the summer months I'd rather not but it worries mr but if this prevents them etc I'd be happier to go a natural route

I've wondered about this too -- our farm store carries it and so does our pet store but I can't get a straight answer how to use it. I have googled it as well but also can never quite figure out what to do with it.

I've never used it, but I see this site recommended all the time from people who do. They sell it so it's not completely unbiased info, but they have a LOT of information on it, how to use it, etc. www.wolfcreekranch.net/diatomaceous_earth.html

Thanks Tracy very interesting reading. Thing I'm going to try it. Also wondering if it can e given to pregnant bitches instead of worming them... Would make me far more comfortable when I breed!
It's about £10 a kg here which I'm sure would last years as chis prob only need 1/4 teaspoon or what not so would easily work out cheaper than advocate at £8 a pop! Ive never seen worms but we've had acouple of fleas (last summer) and the snails freak me out!

Just reading through the links on the site Tracy posted. One said to sprinkle DE on the pet if you see a flea and it will kill it within 72 hours. Whether its on and fed to the dog, my question is, if it lays eggs while its still alive, surely they'll continue to hatch and then the dog will still have fleas? Or do you just keep treating for a period after you spot the flea?
