Last weekend, after mulling it over for WELL over a year, we added a new addition to our family...an 11 week old Cane Corso puppy named Kimber!! She is show quality and hubby will be showing her, however as soon as she is finished she will get the snip and be a beloved family pet. My husband wanted a dog to help give him more 'ownership' and interest in what we are doing because it takes up so much of our time but he's a big dude at 6'5" and 240 lbs so...he just wasn't quite feeling it with the chis.
We have researched this breed extensively -- they are a difficult breed to raise but lovely once trained properly and grown. This little girl was selected for us by the breeder due to an almost non-existent prey drive and 'couch potato' attitude LOL.
She will NEVER be left alone even for two seconds with the chihuahuas, but so far everyone is getting along fairly well...Bryco and Trigger feel the need to beat up on her. Poor thing rolls on her back when she sees them coming!
There are a lot of misconceptions about the breed but really they are just gentle giants, unless someone threatens their domain...they were bred to protect and guard property. She is very smart and sweet and gentle...we are really enjoying her. They do have a dominant personality by nature so we are really kept on our toes with training her, using NILIF. Once she knows her place we should never have another issue. She starts training classes in two weeks once she's had her 12 week jab and time for it to settle in.
At first I was against getting such a large dog (she will be about 100 lb grown) but my husband demonstrated he was very serious about it and after a year he was still asking so here she is Since we have the complete wherewithal to keep the chis and her separate and both comfortable and loved, and have the time, finances and energy, there really was no reason not to get her!
Anyway, PICTURES!!
I think she looks exactly like a HIPPO baby!
