Should I neuter B or not...

So at this point I don't have any use for Bryco in my breeding program...I am looking to build my line with killer pedigrees and as much documented health information as I can get. I have neither w/ him. He also was diagnosed by ONE vet with a tight grade 1 patella in one knee...so for that reason alone I would not use him, even though two other vets said there wasn't a problem, I just can't be confident about it if one person did find a problem...so what if he's a champion it does not mean he needs to be bred from. He is my pet and he is not going anywhere as I bought him on a 'forever' contract and even if I hadn't, I just couldn't bear for him to go anywhere.

The logical thing to do would be neuter him but 1) he really wasn't annoying when the girls were in heat, the opposite actually, he figured out oh, I can't just hump whenever,...there is a time and a place...

And 2) my big concern is the two times he has gone under anesthesia to have teeth pulled, his heart and breathing stopped both times and they almost couldn't bring him back. . ., it took over an hour for him to wake up the second time and it was really scary, the vet had me rush over to try talking to him to try to bring him back once she got his heart going again, cuz he just was not waking up...this was just being masked down, too...so I am terrified of having him put under again and this is my real reason for just not wanting to neuter.

I also may want to show him some more for fun later on if he ever gets some coat in (unlikely) in which case he'll need those dang balls.

I'm not worried about an accidental breeding from him at all, it simply won't happen, so really I am at a loss at this point as to why I'd neuter him other then the small possibility of testicular cancer...

HAHA he already pisses up a storm in my house and is belly banded all the time anyway so its not like neutering will prevent marking behavior...and yes the belly band is lined with a thick absorbent pad and all urine is wicked away from his skin completely and the belly band is changed regularly (seems so unnecessary to say that but jeeze, with what some people think...)

What do you guys think I should do? My biggest thing is the anesthesia thing...really quite concerned about that I honestly would die without him.

No don't neuter him. I would wait til He is 2/3 and re assess. It is healthier for him to be neutered but I wouldn't risk putting him under.

Leave him intact Kristi. There's no problem with that. It is irresponsible people that have the rest of us screaming "neuter!" There are lots of responsible people out there who can handle intact dogs. I think you are one of them.

I guess there is no rush, he still is relatively young ... I just did not find it a problem having him intact but also want whats best for him, it was 2 different vets and 2 different kinds of anesthetic, too I know at least one was the mask kind. Poor little guy...but yeah, he's become much more tolerable overall since he actually realized girls come in heat and just aren't always ready to rhumba ha ha.

yeah i would deffo keep him intact. some other people might want to use him at stud?

I agree with what Tracy said. Although most of us are adamant about people neutering, you arent part of the clueless masses! Knowing his history I wouldn't want to put him under anasethetic either, it's just not worth it Kristi.

However if you are still struggling with the dilema, I saw on "It's me or the Dog" once where that hd an owner than wouldnt allow his dog to have his balls chopped - they gave the dog an injected contraceptive, that lasted 6 months or so and made the dog behave as if he had been neutered.
IDK the pro's and cons of these but you could always use it if you were desperate- like if you needed to go away for some reason while the girls were in heat and couldn't watch them yourself.
