I may try THK as well to stretch out the ZP.. I usually split the 11lb bag of ZP with someone else, but with the price increase I don't know if she will want to continue using it, and I can't go through a whole bag quickly enough with just my dogs. So it looks like it is back to 2.2lb bags.
What do you guys think of the different THK varieties? I have never used it before, so I don't know which one to buy.

I only use the grain free formulas of THK because both Pip and Roo are grain sensitive. Embark is the one I use the most along with Zeal. I used to use Force, but it seems to make Pip's stomach act up a little bit, Roo is fine on it though.
Has anyone tried Love? It's their newest one.

Thanks! I will be going out to buy some Stella & Chewy's today so I will look for THK as well. I looked at the ingredients for Love- I like that it has red meat instead of turkey/chicken. I will probably try that one if I can find it.

I've gotten lazy with teeth...just scale & give a good cleaning every couple months & scrape with my finger nail in between. Also use petzlife when I think of it (need to be more on top of it though!!) & bully sticks really help as well and we just got a boat load more nylabones so hopefully that can't hurt. I just did a good cleaning/scaling and nails today. Took a good while! Thinking a few minutes a day to brush & petzlife every day (instead of occasionally) would be easier than scaling. LOL My chi's teeth are so much better than any other dog we've had but I've always fed kibble before & never worried about teeth. Sooo yeah, anything is an improvement to what I did before. haha Actually I prefer Force THK. All of my dogs seem to do better on it. Doesn't give Matilda indigestion which is a biggy because so many foods do. I have tried Embark & Thrive as well. Thrive isn't "Grain free" but the only grain is quinoa which some say isn't a grain but technically it is. Love looks good but from what I've seen it's almost as much as the Zeal which is quite a bit. I suppose...probably about the same as ZP is. I may try Love at some point. Mari doesn't do well on beef but did tolerate surf n turf S&C...just looked like crap for a day or so. LOL But I don't think there is as much beef in THK so it may be ok. Could give it a try here & there even if it is more expensive.

I just did a good cleaning/scaling and nails today. Took a good while! I bought a scaler, but I've been afraid to use it. I'm such a wimp. I keep thinking I'll hurt them or take off some of their enamel or something. I know, crazy. They both have some small bits on their teeth that could use scaling too. Mainly Roo. Their teeth are pretty good overall though. Maybe one day when I'm feeling brave I'll attempt using the scaler.

Well I bought a box of Embark. The guy at the store was super nice-- He gave me 2 trial packs of ZP venison for free! He also gave me a sample of a food called Sojos.. Never heard of it but it looks okay. He said that ZP is having trouble getting venison, hence the price increase. Also, he said they are coming out with rabbit and beef formulas later next year. They might start selling a 5lb bag as well.
I gave both dogs a taste of the Embark... Penny gobbled it up of course, Lion tried to roll in it.... I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing!

They both have some small bits on their teeth that could use scaling too. Mainly Roo. Their teeth are pretty good overall though. Maybe one day when I'm feeling brave I'll attempt using the scaler. You do have to have a steady hand...and make sure they don't squirm or jerk. It does get a bit stressful especially after doing 7! I haven't noticed any bad things from using the scaler though I'd love to get that tool Kristi posted about a while back that sort of "buffs" after scaling. I would be lying if I said I never slipped & got a small part of their gums but definitely nothing that tramatized them and nothing that was more than a teeny tiny scratch. Still made me feel bad because I know how much I hate having my teeth done at the dentist. LOL Then when I'm done scaling I brush with peroxide/water to make sure any "germs" are taken care of.... Never had an issue though & they always look nice & sparkley after. What I find hard is to get the very last molar on the top on each side! It's hard to stretch their lip back far enough. That's the tooth I have a hard time getting all the crap off of but usually I get most of it off...since that's the one that collects the most build up. Ick! I noticed even when on prey model it collected build up... Guess thats what I get for not actually brushing every day. LOL Though when it was only a couple chi's I did & Matilda's teeth were still disgusting so???

LMAO! Roll in it...hilarious Missy!! I guess that's good since they love to eat & roll in random POOP outside! hehe
Yeah they've been having a hard time getting venison for a long time so I guess we're lucky it didn't increase before now. That is AWESOME they're coming out with a beef & rabbit formula!! I did see a wet rabbit formula at our store & hoped they were thinking of expanding their dry line. Hopefully at least the beef will be cheaper like lamb... A 5lb bag would be handy but a 20-30lb bag would be even better! LOL Hubby even said that the other night. Making a 25lb bag for $200.
Hopefully those changes happen sooner rather than later!
