How exciting!!! You really don't need much food with them. Therese it should help their teeth too as no carbs which cause more plaque build up than normal. Give it a couple of months and you'll see a change thanks! I really am excited and it's good to know there is a place to share this with people who understand how very important this is for T & J. I hadn't even thought about it being good for their teeth! I'm very happy for that too. I switched cold turkey to ZP as well and had no issues. Both my guys do great on it, I'm a big fan. they are doing very well. In fact, giving them kibble feels like letting them eat junk food now Thanks everyone for your support. This is Day 4 of Ziwi Peak and both Tabitha and Jerry are doing very, very well! Now, can we celebrate the morning poops Their stools are smaller, don't smell as bad, and not messy. Tabitha is one of those girls that has a lot of looser stools and a messy bottom. Often she needs cleaning up with Baby Wipes. Not this week! I'm so glad. Yay! Next question--what to give them for their midday and goodnight treat? And, what supplement to give Tabitha instead of the Old Mother Hubbard Hip and Joint biscuits. Is there a pill that doesn't cost a lot? No calories please--the little lady has to watch her weight... almost forgot--I did add a bit of water to Tabitha's breakfast and it slowed her down just a bit so that she and Jerry finished eating about the same time. He does like to chew his food

You are going to get a FEW calories in a joint biscuit. I really like the Zuke's joint biscuits. I cut them in half when I first get the bag. Half is really plenty for a chi, and they love them. You also could buy the human-grade capsules of gluco & controitin and the pharmacy (Walgreens has a great brand) and just put about 1/3 of a capsule on her food first thing in the morning w/ the water; she won't even know it is there most likely.
I give Stella & Chewy's Carnivore Crunch for treats, or Kona's chips. But mine are all porkers too, it seldom seems anyone "needs" a snack lol.

thanks for the info Kristi btw -- Dollars and Cents: I've ordered 4 more 2.2 lb bags of ZP Lamb Recipe instead of the 11 lb bag. It would take us several months to use that much food and I would rather open a fresh bag every three weeks

Where do you order from Therese? I usually get it locally but if I can get a better deal, I'd ship it in.

I didn't have my brain in gear today... Still, I'm in for the smaller bags and opening a fresh one every 3 weeks vs every 15 weeks

Soooo happy they are adusting so well! HURRAY!! And especially HURRAY for the non-sloppy poops. hehe I bet Jerry's tear stains clear up. Marley does get a bit teary on ZP for whatever reason (nobody else does) but it's clear & doesn't stain. So excited to hear any differences you notice in the coming weeks. I am sure there will be some! ;D

Oh & as for amount...my smaller ones get about 1/3 scoop twice a day. My bigger ones (above 6lbs) get 1/2 scoop twice a day. This works for all of them. And we rarely do treats any more....just bullies mid day & they end up eating some of it so I guess it is a treat. LOL
