This is day one of transitioning Tabitha and Jerry over to ZiwiPeak. Breakfast went well. Jerry was a bit skeptical and carried a piece of ZP off to the dog bed. While he was distracted, Tabitha helped herself to some of his breakfast They both seemed happy with the new food. Dinner went equally as well. I haven't noticed any allergy problems (me) when I opened the bag. I think it's the Parsley I smell--but it didn't bother me. The food, (ZP Lamb Recipe) actually smells good and fresh to me...not at all what I was bracing myself for! lol! I have a sample 8 oz bag of Venison, but I'll open that much later on. I am curious how long I should stretch out the transition. Definitely not going back to Royal Canin. Our backup plan will be Innova Adult small breed. They could eat it successfully, just not my choice for them.

Great news Therese! Are you mixing the ZP with their old food? I think it is Karen that just switched her pups cold turkey to ZP with no problems at all. I have heard of others doing the same thing. I'd probably just go on and switch them all the way over and stop feeding the old food. Good luck! I hope it works for them!

YAY! So glad the first day went well. I've always switched pups cold turkey to ZP w/NO issue at all. They went straight to nicely formed small poops. I have heard one or two people say their pups had a soft poo or two (not diarrhea--just soft) but most times I hear no issues at all. I'd personally switch...or they may end up eating all the ZP off their old food & leave the old stuff. haha Have heard of that happening more than once. I always like the smell myself. LOL Some people don't. I say it could be worse.

That's great! I'm so glad the first day went well. I switched Dexter to ZP without mixing it with his prior food, but I have since noticed that his tummy isn't all that sensitive. :-) I find the Lamb recipe to smell sort of sweet, although none of them bother me in the least. I guess I expected much worse with all the discussion of smell! Haha! Hoping tomorrow and the next day go just as well!

Tabitha seems a bit quiet this evening (like she doesn't feel well) and her stools were a bit off today. So, I think I'll continue the transition for a bit. I really want them to have this improvement in their diet. I'm sure we can get thru the changes. YAY! So glad the first day went well. I've always switched pups cold turkey to ZP w/NO issue at all. Well, both of my Ziwi Pups are happily snoring away with their full tummies. They really enjoyed their new food today! I'll keep everyone posted on their progress.

Just a thought Therese...if they continue to have "off" stools. Ziwi is a raw & while I believe it takes a bit more time to digest than actual raw because it's a dried food...it still may throw their bellies off being mixed with a kibble if they do digest at different rates. Granted...they suggest Ziwi as a "kibble topper" but IMO there is a big difference between a topper & half & half if you kwim. Not saying this is the problem for sure but just something to think about. Hopefully today has been better for them...

Hopefully today has been better for them... Both of them look totally fit and happy with the new food. I'm just going to let them go Cold Turkey (er, ehm.. Cold Lamb) Glad I read your post before I fed them their dinner. Oh My Gosh! They gobble the ZP up very fast! Maybe have to divide their meals and feed a bit slower?
