So pleased to hear that Roo's doing so well Paula! Just think, you're at the half-way mark already... you'll find yourself watching her charging around with Pip much sooner than you think, and you'll remember back to this time and how worrying it was... and you'll be able to laugh

Aww..that's great to hear hun! I'm so glad she is doing well and you're at the half way point. You must be relieved to see how she's walking now though I'm sure it is strange. So glad she's coming along so well xx

So glad she's coming along so well xx Thanks hun. I am so relieved with how well she is walking! She is doing really good. I have to really keep her leash short as she's just ready to take off now. lol. I am sure it feels like FOREVER at this point! I hope she continues her good recovery. Thanks Kristi. It does feel like forever. I really feel so bad crating her like this. She looks so sad. The scary thing is when I read about the after care online it mentions 12 weeks of no running or jumping. Omg, seriously, I'll die, if it's that long. He told me 6 - 8 weeks for recovery, but maybe that is just for regular unrestricted walking indoors and maybe the running/jumping bit is longer. I guess I'll find out on the next recheck. If I were to let her have unrestricted activity indoors clearly it would be impossible to stop the running and jumping. How long was it before they said you could let Oakley run and jump? I know her surgery was less involved, but it did involve ligaments healing so I'm curious.

She was good to go at the 4 week mark...but I don't think that's normal. When I said I was gonna hafta keep her from it for a few months the ortho just laughed and said "good luck with that, she can't live her life in a box". But it wasn't as extensive, and only 1 knee. So she was back to a jumping bean at 4 weeks.

That's exactly the same as it was for Roo when she had her groove deepened for the first surgery. She was good to go at 4 weeks too. From what I read online it's the tibial crest movement that makes the healing and recovery longer to make sure the bones are really healed in place so the repair doesn't fail. I swear though if I have to wait for 12 weeks before she can run and jump, I honestly will lose it. I wonder if it's possible for it to be completely healed at, say, 8 weeks.

Roo had her 7 week recheck today and everything went great! I'm so thrilled! The surgery was a success and her healing has been excellent and her knees are solid. yay! He gave her the go ahead for some unrestricted activity in the house, but no jumping off furniture and no unrestricted outdoor activity for another month. He said he's being cautious as they are pretty soild and it would take pretty big trauma for the repair to come apart at this point, but he'd still like to ease her slowly back into things. I told him if I let her loose in the house with no gates at all, she'll likely tear around like a maniac. LOL. He said just try and keep her calm and so forth. If she tears around too much, I can harness her, but he thinks it's ok for her to do some running inside, the repair is solid etc. Well, exactly as predicted she took one look around and went zooming around like a mad dog so I had to stop her. It was pretty cute though she was so happy. Went right for her toy box too. ;D Then when she saw me put the crate away she got excited again and started running around. Soo... LOL. Might keep a smaller area gated for a little bit still. I'm a bit nervous about it all still. The only problem so far has been that she still wants to lift her right leg once in awhile. He said that could be due to the wires/pins and we'll know more in another month if they'll need to be removed. He said it could also be habit or simply her getting used to them, they are in quite a different position now. She was extremely bowlegged before the surgery and the muscles were moved and pinned. She hasn't lifted it all for about 3 days now, which is great so here's hoping. I'll see how it goes over the next month. He did not take an xray. He didn't feel it was necessary at this point. He might in another month, depending. So, all in all, I'm really pleased. Her legs look great now, it's so weird seeing her walk straight and not having them luxate at all, especially when she goes over uneven ground outside. She's sleeping in her bed now, tired from her little happy freedom burst.
