I am against ear cropping and tail docking. My boyfs 2 Jack Russells were both docked and the stump just looks mutant to me. I understand while it was traditionally done in the working types, but for pets there is no justifying it. I read that since it was banned in 2008??? And the vets can no longer perform it, there have been more instances of people attempting to do it themselves and causing a lot of damage, pups bleeding to death etc.
As for dew claws- I got feo's removed with his spay in feb. I do not regret it and his fear and agression with having his feet handled and nails trimmed has since stopped. It was not an easy healing process, he doesn't cock his leg to pee so he pees on his front legs, his bandages weren't supposed to come off but they were soaked in urine and were slipping off and I had to remove them on day 2. Every day I had to strip, clean and re-dress them with hydrocolloid every day. The stiches came appart and part ended up not disolving and going bad inside the wound and I had to get it out with tweezers. Despite all that i don't regret it at all it has really paid off.
Napoleon is getting neutered on tues and I am trying to convince David to get his dew claws off too but he is against it. Nappie is v problematic with getting his nails trimmed. And his dews are black claws which I am scared to trim. Our normal vet doesn't do them so this is his only chance rly, (he is being neutered at the shelter cos its a third of the price) also I would never want to put him under anaesthetic again unless it was life of death.
Sorry for my megga essay but its been rly playing on my mind. Opinions please x

Lol at feos spay sort of thing I would say Tail docking and ear cropping was made illegal in 2007 some working dogs can still have it done but a lot of criteria is needed see te link I posted! If napoleons nails are an issue then I would prob do it it is seen as an amputation though! So um idk if it's causing problems then I would probably have them done.

I hate dew claws. I would get my girls' removed at their spay, but where I am getting it done (Human Society) they don't remove them So yeah, I guess we are SOL!

I am really happy that Draco's breeder removes the dew claws at a few days old. My daughters chihuahua constantly gets his snagged and torn...I would have had Dracos removed at his neuter, if he had them.

Mia has 4 dew claws...they are a pain in the behind to trim! Bailey has them as well. His breeder was against having them removed. Addy and Lacey dont have any.

Reese had his done, Miley and Leo both have theirs. They are such a pain to trim! Do they even have a quik? Because I usually cut more off their dew claws then I do their regular nails and there doesnt seem to be a quik and they are so thin and flat that I wonder if maybe they just dont have one. I would definitely not get them done at a neuter/spay unless they were causing a big problem. Our lab had the same thing happen as Trigger and he was MISERABLE. He didnt notice the neuter at all, but acted like he couldnt even walk and had an upset tummy and was constantly bothering at his leg where the dewclaw had been done. We actually took him back in a day or two after because he was so reluctant to move even to get food/water that we thought he was dying
