Has anyone used this for looking at co-efficients for future matings on the KC website? Just been playing around with it and of course it is trying to dissuade people to do any line breeding which I always try and do a little of...........chi long coats should not be higher than 4.4% - only one of my proposed mating is less than this. I think it depends on health checks of sire and dam but chis do not require many health checks and then there's the problem of owners being upfront.................

I saw this when it first went live and got so confused on how it works!!
There are No health tests recommended for chis it's awful!! I think I'll deffo get eyes done under the BVA scheme but idk if it will show up on the papers? There is a section but I'm not sure if the results will show for breeds it's not recommended for! Patellar should be done too especially after dogs with clear LP are placing!!!

Well not sure it's that helpful for me - looking at all my dogs Mouse has the lowest at 1.4% with no testicles - so no use anyway (but such a sweetie) and then Cammi who is probably too small to breed from but does have good conformation (not that anyone can tell from the ring)...........still interesting though.

I'm not really sure how it works, do you have to type in the whole pedigree? Or just the dogs names? (I can't get on the site on my phone )

Louise you just type in the dogs full name and press 'sort' (I think it is) button below. After all the money we pay the KC for registration they have all the records of the pedigrees.

Louise if we mated perry to lotus pups would have 2.5%. Which is odd coz perry is 8.9 and they are related :s

I'm not sure it will "take off* so to speak. I think if a breeder had two nice dogs that were they wanted to breed and they thought it was a good idea, but the inbreeding co-efficient was too high, they would just breed them any way, they might even have a hard time finding a mate within their circles of friednds who's didn't have a too high coeficient. I know it is popular and I'm probs going against the grain but I had to research and write about the effects of cousin marriages (abd producing children) within the uk pakistani community, in britain now and the results are pretty shocking, for me they make any kind of line breeding or in breeding a definate no-go, even if it would produce a very nice looking dog. I hope more people make use of the mate select tool but I doubt they will.
