The most wonderful thing about toy breed dogs is they can entertain themselves, whether it be chewing happily for hours, playing with each other, or sleeping! They are absolutely over the moon when you give them attention. Big dogs apparently can't entertain themselves at all, instead they bitch and moan like bored kids until you come throw the ball again for them. They can't play with each other or even figure out how to set foot in the yard without you, and their damn ball. HA at least that's my experience thus far this week. And yes, he's STILL barking

Its just like, little dogs are a companion breed. You'd think that means they need more attention than a large breed, but, nope! B'c at least in a pack, they really do entertain themselves most of the time and want to snuggle w/ you when they are done!
Hubby wants a big dog but I think this is changing his mind, I mean they just can't figure out how to do anything without you there entertaining them! And then they freaking bark if you stop! OK I know that's not all big dogs, but in this case...lol.

Two of our three big dogs were like that too--Zander was an exception! LOL I suppose maybe they're thrown for a loop too being in a different house while their normal routine is thrown about so that could contribute to their off behavior.
With our Labs it was a breed thing (which is probably part of the case with the labradoodle)...they got way board because they weren't hunting & so they found other things to do to keep themselves busy that wasn't so cool to us. Not their fault really...it was our for not providing them with the correct job. I think with the Chi's that's what they're bred for...being companions. They don't have a drive to do anything else like other breeds...because being with us is it! LOL

Boxers are not like that at all. At least not in my experience. WInston doesn't require any attention from us besides the occasional petting. He plays with toys alot and sleeps alot. Soooo easy!! I think you just have a couple maniacs there, but don't let them spoil the idea of "big" dogs for you guys. IT truly depends on the breed. Boxers are a high energy breed but winston isn't nearly the energy of leila! lol

I just worry what if they DO end up like that!? These dogs are awful! One of them jumped the fence from their yard today into the little dog yard, and went after Leah...I was so scared. Thankfully Miles caught him...ugh. They are SO bad!

eh, don't worry about it. I don't think you'd have any problem. First of all don't get one that is the breed of those dogs, second of all what ever you get, get as a puppy and let it grow up with the chis. Problem solved!

Kristi you are so funny I don't like big dogs personally probably because I don't have the space or the energy to run a big dog and I don't rollerblade so! They are far more work and you know hoe the chis get the zoomies and charge around the house I'd br worried everything would get broken if a big dog did that!! And the barking makes the house rock hahaha should get a big dog to piss my neighbour off hahah my babies don't bark that much but I think once you get over 4 chis The barking could be a bit much if they all start together hahaha But yes I'm a toy breed only girl may want a pom Or jap chin in the future not sure lol
