This sites worth a look if you are interested www.dogs-r-us.org/I think Lucy makes a good point that well meaning people still buy from iffy places, because they believe they are saving the dogs. We have someone breeding Chihuahuas in our area and the dogs are kept outside mostly, they are BYB's and I have spoken to a few people who have bought from them. These owners are not BAD people, just ignorant and impulsive. At least the ones I spoke to were wanting their dogs neutered, so that was something There is another woman breeding locally, I only speak to her to see what she is up to and I've said if she decides to re-home, we will help (though she would sell, rather than do that) or if she is keeping an ex brood bitch I can help get it spayed. It makes me sick talking to her, but then you just have to grit your teeth! Some of her dogs are nice examples (in my mind) of the breed and come from good backgrounds, very sad that they have ended up with her.

The problem is once the breeders sell the dogs they don't know what happens you use your best judgement but then you can get shafted. I know of dogs that have been shipped out the country without the breeders knowing, dogs that have been re sold 2 hours after buying them. And when they find out and try to get them back nothing works it's heartbreaking
