Well, I did start off feeding Oakley kibble and she needed a dental by 9 months, I tried to take care of her teeth from that point but at 13 months she had major dental surgery to remove 8 retained baby teeth they should have pulled at her spay and to clean her teeth up. Since then I have been brushing her teeth every day. It looks though like she is going to lose one of her upper middle incisors soon, it's pretty wiggly. Definitely an adult tooth...I have heard tons of show people bitch about awful teeth but I figured if you take care of them you are good to go...I guess not! She's only a few months over 2 years old lol. Teeth are pretty, pearly white, and gums are healthy and pink. Maybe she just knocked it or something, but I think it's just falling out. I'm a little sad

Bryco lost a tooth at 9 months and another's not far behind but his teeth have serious issues due to improper nutriton... a whole 'nother story haha. Laurel still has all hers but she's a massive dog.

You know I wonder if poor dentition is in the likes like with hairless dredgers they have to breed in better teeth or something!!
Daisy isn't much younger than smish I know nothing about her lines as hVrno clue who she is by lol but her teeth are fine other than having a shitty bite! Either that or maybe she hurt it idk

Oakley's were fine too but she is from the same lines as Bryco -- there is only one line here that is known for its good teeth but they dont sell their dogs. Other than that, yeah!! Trigger is her 1/2 brother so I will have to see how his teeth fare, he has an awful undershot bite but it comes from the half not related to Oakley at all. Even though Oakley is from a pet breeder she actually has a nicer pedigree than Bryco lol go figure. She has crap conformation, etc. etc. but I have heard the nicer the lines the worse the teeth...ack! It sucks tho b'c everything looks healthy. She just lost 2 more baby teeth maybe 4 months ago? I didn't figure the adults would come out any time soon but I guess I was wrong. People always say I would be shocked to look in the mouths of any special/CH dog over the age of 3 (which is when most get coat here lol) b'c they have no incisors left! I really do try to take care of their teeth and at least their mouths aren't in any pain but its sad if the teeth are just going to slowly fall out

I was quite shocked to hear this too. Speaking to Nick (who is a breed specialist, breeder & judge) he says it is common and accepted for Chi's in the show-ring to have bad & missing teeth- even as young as 2 or 3 years. I couldn't believe that judges would overlook a dog with awful teeth - but it seems it's expected!

I suppose only time will tell. lotus dad is 5 and lost his first tooth the other day. So I will see what happens with hers. She has very good teeth though even if I do say so myself and don't have a speck of plaque on them so we will see! I think maybe they need to try breed better mouths in. I wonder if muzzle size has anything to do with it

I do think muzzle size plays a significant part, from what I understand those with longer noses (like Alfie) tend to have better teeth than the ones with the much shorter, snub noses. Alfie's teeth are great so far, very white and clean, but I guess even he might have issues as he gets older? Badger's teeth (what's left of them) are awful.

Hmm maybe she did just knock it? Or does she play tug of war with toys with anyone else? Seems very early to lose teeth when you look after them so well and its not like she has a poor diet!
