Tabitha went in for a routine dental in April. My Vet is now a Specialist in this area. On xray he discovered many retained baby teeth hidden in her gums! We could have been looking in her mouth for years and never have known they were there causing problems! So glad it's all been taken care of now.

Therese, did your vet extract the retained baby teeth? Or just leave them there?

He went in and got them out She had 10 teeth extracted. About half were the baby teeth and half due to overcrowding in her mouth. Poor girl... It was after this surgery last April that I saw a total change in her! Those Baby teeth were not helping her. Getting them out definitely perked her up!

Oakley had a whole bunch as well that had to be pulled when she was 13 months old, she was such a picky eater before and I couldn't figure out why, then she got a voracious appetite after those teeth were gone! Glad it helped Tabitha too.

strange thing about Tabitha's baby teeth--if you just looked in her mouth, you couldn't see them! The Vet found them on xray. I was in the Vet office today and asked how he got them out. They said he made a flap and went in through that to remove them. If he had not taken them out, they would likely have abscessed.

The tooth is still in, now I wonder how long it's been loose for and how long it'll stay in, lol. She doesn't seem bothered by it. There also is kinda an over-crowding issue with her incisors anyway which makes me wonder if that's why it's loose...natural selection or something and bye-bye tooth haha.
Oh well, it doesn't matter, I am glad her mouth is healthy, with however many teeth she was made to have at whatever age lol.

Question: In the case of a loose incisor tooth like what was mentioned, is this something that comes out on it's own or do you need to have the tooth pulled? (First time Chihuahua owner here
