Hollie, I wonder if the fish intolerance you are seeing is actually an intolerance to vitamin E derived from soy? I know it's a stretch, but I have heard of many people whose dogs couldn't take fish oil, or so they thought. Then they switched to a product that doesn't have any soy and they were fine! If you see tocopherols or mixed tocopherols on a label - that is SOY derived vitamin E. Many companies sneak it in as their preservative.
Many dogs are fine with it. Brody can eat soy with no problems. But some dogs are VERY sensitive to it. It might be worth looking for a food that doesn't have any soy or tocopherols in it and see if that helps with the sensitivity/allergy issues.

I don't Tracy know it could be?? When I fed completely raw I was supplementing with Salmon Oil and he was terrible then, he lost all his fur of his thighs and side of his torso. Now at least the fur on his thighs has grown back, not from his body though

Did your salmon oil have vitamin E in it? Tocopherols or mixed tocopherols? Just look at the label. You are probably right... he probably has an allergy to fish oil. But I thought I'd throw out the vitamin E connection as I have seen it before and people were blaming the oil when it was actually the soy in the vitamin E that they were responding to!

I just threw away the bottle the other day as I saw it had gone off. It was Grizzleys brand, I will google it. He was having it a lot as he didn't like raw chicken or turkey at all and would only eat it if it had salmon oil on it. Tocopherols - rings a bell I'm sure that it was in Orijen and TOTW to preserve the fish in it. I could find out if he is allergic to the actual fish or the preservative by trying feeding him on some fresh fish, but I am reluctant as I don't want to set him off again biting, it takes weeks for his skin to calm down and even longer for the fur to regrow. ARGH it is sooo frustrating!!!

I have changed my three Chi's to Ziwi and am very happy with it. I cant afford to put my hubbys castrated Whippet on it aswell though and was wondering what anyones veiws are on 'Applaws' dry dog food ? I did feed the 'puppy version to two of my chi's when they were puppies and it did seem very good quality.

Applaws is one of the better foods on the market. It does contain beet pulp though, but other than that its alot better than 90% of foods available these days.
James Wellbeloved cereal/grain free isn't too bad either. Its what i'm feeding my chi at the moment
If you can afford it I would go with Orijen, Acana or Taste of the wild. The bigger bags will last longer and work out cheaper than to keep buying the smaller ones

Oooo also forgot to tell you guys if your worried about tear stains, my friend who exhibits chis in Finland told me that Royal Cannin for (I think) maltease or some other white dog is good and clears them up really well.
