We were sitting watching TV and Leah was at hubby's hip and the boys were next to her and I guess had some disagreement, they started fighting and Trigger instead of getting Bryco got ahold of Leah right on the head and once we pulled him off her I could feel a small piece of skull was detatched next to her soft spot!!!!!! We called the emergency vet and they basically had me run through a list of things/symptoms things she might be doing, and said that there was nothing they could do tonight...that if a small dog injures their skull they just usually wait for it to re-fuse on their own...I'm of course paniced and upset and totally freaked out...She seems to be acting pretty normal and her eyes are dialating normally etc so the vet said to just wake up and check on her every other hour...my guess is Trigger is just so big and strong and hit it 'just so' with one of his teeth ... she doesn't seem to be in any real pain and there is slight swelling at the spot (not the soft spot/brain fluid itself, but the specific place where its chipped) and she doesn't like it when we touch it but the vet said it was unlikely they will even want to run an xray tomorrow because I guess injuries like this are somewhat normal...WTF...we are supposed to call back if anything changes................................

OMG! Poor Leah...at the wrong place at the wrong time. That is really scary but I guess it's a sensitive spot not only the brain being there but the bone probably isn't the thickest at the opening (especially if it's still closing a bit) so I suppose in that case it would be easy to happen. Anyway...hopefully it heals on it's own w/o causing her any more discomfort than it already is...or any issues. Naughty boys btw!

The piece of bone like, slipped over, it's kinda sitting between skin and skull. Her soft spot was and has been about the size of a dime for months now. I'm worried the vet should see her and the vet was just like oh it's not that abnormal for this to happen, there is nothing we would do or even do x-rays to be honest with you because we aren't cutting a dog's head open unless it's something incredibly life threatening and she didn't think this was...Leah was asleep when Trig got her and the scream she made was terrifying...I'm thankful he did not get her eye but also very worried about her atm

Yeah...DEFINITELY good he didn't get her eye--yikes! So maybe it was just a "chip" in her skull? Not the soft spot? I don't blame you for being worried...heads/skulls aren't anything to mess with. Maybe just watch her like they said tonight & take her to your reg vet in the morning for reassurance?

I definitely will have a vet check it out tomorrow...she seems fine...there definitely is a swollen spot on her head. I THINK it is a chip off from the side of her soft spot though, at least that is what if feels like.

Oh no! Poor Leah! I find it weird that they don't think it's that big of a deal and that they said it isn't that abnormal... but, maybe that's a good thing then! I hope she heals up quick and that she isn't in any pain!!
