Last night my little italian greyhound Buck jumped of a chair and broke his leg. He is currently at the vets waiting for a xray.
My chuhuahua cross Lily is in season so last night whilst I was at ringcraft the boys were in bed upstairs and Lily was downstairs with her dad. When I got in I let the boys downstairs and took them for a walk. Lily is just going out of season so they are allowed to be with her under strict supervision. Well the boys deicided to play silly beggars and were charging round like loonies.
OH told them to settle down and behave both jumped off the chair and I don't know what happened whether Willow knocked into him but Buck knocked his front leg on the edge of the stone hearth. It just snapped in two.
I have just spoken to the receptioist at the vets she says he has had a good night and will xray him later and put a cast on it. We then have to decide whether to take him to an orthopedic vet to have the leg pinned or to stay with the cast. His breeder has told me it is better to go with the cast as pinning such fine bones will make them weaker.

Oh gosh I hope he heals soon. My friends really badly bred chi shattered his leg and it was pinned about 5 times by an orthopod... His leg is bionic now bet said if he got hit by a car it'd be the only thing left in one piece.. How he mends soon

We have got back from the vets after visiting Buck. It is a clean break straight across both bones about 1/5th of the way up from his knee.
We have decided to go with the cats rather than the pins as it is a clean break with no bits in that would nee removing. He should have now had his cast put on and if he is ok in it should be coming home tomorrow then it is just a case of time will tell. I have been this afternoon and got him some comfrey as it is supposed to help to knit broken bones together.
If it doesn't heal correctly and he cannot be shown then he will just be a pet although someone did tell me if I got a letter from the vet saying his leg was broken in an accident I should still be able to show him again even if it isn't quite straight.

Buck came home yesterday he wewent for the cast rather than the pins. I wasn't happy that he may have had to waited until tuesday for the op. We did have to go back to the vets yesterday afternoon as his toes started swelling. We were advised by his breeder to give him comfrey to help the healing prossess and so have also started him on that in his food.
He has had a good night and is now on 8 weeks cage rest. Any ideas on how to keep a dog that is restricted to a cage amussed and to stop him getting bored are welcome. He has a meaty bone but isn't interested.
